The Eliza Jane hotel’s common spaces are beautiful great, with plenty of seating areas. I didn’t try Commerce though it seemed well-regarded. I think that’s their “500 points per room per day” that I’d read to expect, which is absurdly low, even though they provided breakfast coupons for 3 mornings of the stay. We were given coupons for Commerce restaurant nearby for breakfast for two though it wasn’t open one day and we were given 2000 points in lieu. The valet never answered the phone at all during my stay, and there frequently wasn’t anyone out front of the hotel, but the front desk always sorted it. The Eliza Jane, part of the Unbound Collection by Hyatt, is located just two blocks from the French Quarter, three blocks from the Warehouse Arts District and a short 10-minute drive from the Garden District. And indeed a front desk staff member went out to tell the valet my room number after I’d checked in. hen the valet paid us a mind he told me I’d have to come back outside to find him and tell him my room number – that my name was not enough. There’s a private pay lot just past the hotel, but since I was a Globalist member staying on points valet parking is free. When I arrived at the property the valet was overwhelmed. But make sure you get a Magazine Street view and not an interior courtyard. I’d actually consider buying up to one either at booking, or contacting the hotel in advance, if you aren’t confident of an upgrade – since base here rooms are small. The first tip about the Eliza Jane hotel is that many of the suites at this property come at a very modest premium. The Eliza Jane hotel in downtown New Orleans on Magazine Street was a great base for a four night stay, using category 1-4 free nights.

If you are wondering how to ‘ power dress‘ in business wear then pink is your ally. So forget all that pink-is-girly nonsense. Women like men in pink – some even say they love them! – simply because they’re attracted to pink. What does this mean for men? Well society may have evolved but biology hasn’t (at least not totally). And that connects to their love for pink. The theory behind this difference is our evolutionary “division of labor.” Back in the day, men were hunters while women gathered – so picking red fruit from green leafy areas was women’s specialty. Among people who like the color blue, women lean towards reddish-purple hues of blue while men prefer greenish-yellow ones. Research reveals that the “pinkifcation” of girls’ clothing and toys might've been caused by innate preferences. But did you know our biology can sort of explain why? It appears they’ve always loved it – even when it was considered masculine. Who says pink isn’t allowed when there are pink shirts, trousers and ties for adult men? It was a myth all along – driven by capitalism. You can wear what any guy wears… in any color that works. You’ve outgrown those blue pajamas and other boys’ clothes. So the tradition of “pink is for girls” and “blue is for boys” began.īut here’s the thing – you’re not a young boy anymore. This would mean that parents could no longer hand down a baby girl’s clothes to a baby boy and vice versa. So companies capitalized on this and introduced gender-specific clothing. Parents started to know a child’s sex from an earlier age. They were often used together for infants’ clothes and accessories (pink represented rosy cheeks and youth) UNTIL manufacturers in the ‘60s and ‘70s got greedy. Pink and blue weren’t originally gender-specific colors. They made that decision before most of us were even born. If there’s anyone to blame for making pink a “girly” color – it’s the clothing businesses from way back. You’re No Longer A Child Who Needs “Boys’ Clothes” But then again… in this day and age where we see the return of dark lipstick and long hair – who knows what can happen to pink? Who's to say it won't become masculine again? Chances are good. These examples prove how trends come and go, making way for what's new or original. The shirt suited their so-called Ivy League look. It was initially meant to target female students but it caught on more with college guys. The early 1900s saw the very first pink dress shirt – designed by Brooks Brothers – become a hit. Steele also mentions how pink was considered a “warlike color” since it was a “diminutive of red.” This fashion and way of thinking got lost as society changed. Those outfits were considered very masculine at that time. Men were known to wear pink silk suits that had floral embroideries. The director of The Museum at the Fashion Institute Technology, Valerie Steele takes it back to the 18th century. History tells us that pink wasn’t always a feminine color. Pink Used To Be Masculine & Popular Among Guys So don't be left behind! Here are 5 valid reasons for men to wear pink. Whatever point of view about pink being “unmanly” – it's dying away. This color has a history which most men are unaware of. If that's how you feel about the color, reality check: Pink, seriously? Is it okay for guys to wear pink? I am not sure that you can use SketchUp effectively without the keyboard shortcuts, particularly for the camera and view tools. I will post the small SketchUp tips that have made a difference for me as I come across them.įirst tip, you need to learn to use the keyboard shortcuts. Between Bob’s DVDs and the Grover book, I have been making rapid progress at learning SketchUp at last. Additionally, I bought the book Google SketchUp: The Missing Manualby Chris Grover. Bob generated many “ah-ha” moments that solved my prior problems. Bob makes clear the small “details” that turned SketchUp from frustrating to highly useful. It is very useful.įor those of you wanting to learn to use SketchUp for furniture making, I highly recommend buying Bob Lang’s two DVDs. I’m happy to report, that after taking Bob Lang’s SketchUp seminar at WIA, and then practicing at home using Bob’s SketchUp DVDs, I’m now successfully using SketchUp to design furniture. After all, I deal with technology all day and I ought to be able to learn to design using this program. This year, prior to going to WIA last month, I became determined to learn SketchUp and fight may way through my hangups. To do SketchUp right, it takes some practice. This hidden power makes the program LOOK much simpler to use than it really is. The program is far more powerful than it looks, and there are a myriad of tiny details and tricks that are hidden from the user. Unfortunately, in my prior attempts to use it for “real” I have always been stopped by small details that I just could not get to work the way that I wanted, and I always reverted to pencil and paper. The program, on its face, is very easy to learn to use and really cool (and free). I’m always down to talk about woodworking and carpentry.I had tried to learn to use Google SketchUp before to aid in design of woodworking projects.\ If you have any questions about anything(or you think I missed something!) please don’t hesitate to ask. Finally, if your team is in the PA/NJ area and need a field to practice on, feel free to email to arrange a time to stop by and do some testing! Feel free to figure out how much you would need from scratch and post it below. That's about a 7% difference in ending wealth. At the end of year 10, the investor will have $129,263 if none of the dividends is qualified, or $138,267 if 100% of the dividends are qualified. The power of compounding illustrates the impact of the favorable tax treatment of QDI on an investor's wealth across 10 years. The investor keeps $3,400 of the $4,000 pretax dividend payment. But if the entire dividend payment is deemed qualified dividend income, then it is taxed at the investor's long-term capital gains tax rate of 15%. At the end of year one, our hypothetical investor only keeps $2,600 of the $4,000 pretax dividend payment. If none of the 4% dividend payment is qualified, then the dividend payment is taxed at the investor’s income tax rate of 35%. We'll ignore capital appreciation and reinvest the aftertax dividend payment back into the fund at the end of each year to isolate the effect of QDI. Let's say the investor parked $100,000 in a dividend-paying fund that paid a constant dividend yield of 4% each year. Because I can't predict the future of tax policy, I'll hold these tax rates constant. This income level translates to a 2018 income tax rate of 35% and a 2018 long-term capital gains tax rate of 15%. What's the Impact? Let's assume an investor's annual income is $400,000. The bigger the differential between investors' income tax rate and long-term capital gains tax rate, the more they stand to gain by increasing the portion of qualified dividend income. It's worth pointing out that the income breakpoints between both tables do not line up cleanly as they had prior to the 2018 tax reform. 31, 2017, and April 30, 2018, for the dividend payment to be eligible for the preferential tax treatment.ģ) Special structures such as real estate investment trusts and master limited partnerships do not qualify for favorable dividend income treatment.Įxhibits 1a and 1b display the new 2018 income tax and long-term capital gains tax brackets. For example, if a stock's ex-dividend date is March 1, 2018, the investor must hold the shares for more than 60 days between Dec. corporation or qualified foreign corporation makes the dividend payment.Ģ) The fund (or individual investor) holds the security for at least 61 days out of the 121-day period that began 60 days before the security's ex-dividend date. QD 'Aye' Ordinary dividend income is considered "qualified" if it meets certain criteria:ġ) A U.S. Thus, the higher the percentage of a fund's dividends classified as QDI, the more money taxable investors take home after taxes. Qualified dividends are currently taxed at a rate of 0% to 20%, depending on an investor's tax bracket, rather than at the same rate as ordinary income tax rates. The Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003 made dividend payments more attractive because it introduced a lower tax rate for qualified dividend payments. Many investors turn to dividend-paying stock funds for investment income. In this article, I'll zero in on an often overlooked source of tax costs and examine the topic of qualified dividend income, or QDI. Fortunately, investors have a good amount of control over these two important factors. The less you fork over to Uncle Sam, the more you pocket. Vanguard founder Jack Bogle has succinctly summarized the effect of fund fees: "In investing, you get what you don't pay for." The less you pay to an investment manager, the more you keep for yourself. A version of this article was published in the March 2018 issue of Morningstar ETFInvestor. This society is a would-be utopia where pleasure is the priority: sexual libertinage is the norm, people have no parents, and commitment is discouraged. The year is 2540, or 632 years AF (After Ford), and the setting is England, or the ‘World State’. So busy was I bemoaning the treatment of nature, of art, of the family unit that I often relegated the dichotomy between painful truths and escapist pleasures at the back of the list - that is, until now. In the interesting years since the 2016 election, however, the book has taken on a new sense of gravity, one of the most unexpected thematic aspects (for me) coming back to sound on my conscience, like a resounding gong. I went through an anxious phase, a few years ago, where I became overly preoccupied with the dangers of genetic modification, so reading Brave New World at that point in time was simultaneously therapeutic and a masochistic way to kindle my anxieties. Other times, I read it to pick apart the characters who are contradictions upon contradictions. Sometimes, I read it solely for the powerful prose. Much of Aldous Huxley’s work can be (and has been) dissected thoroughly over the years, unveiling constant new layers of complexity. Much of its timelessness has to do with the fact that it is, at its core, a statement on human nature as long as we remain, these haunting tales about the hidden pockets of our souls will be relevant. It remains a behemoth in American literature for a reason. Its bold and harsh commentary on pleasure as either vice or release, on social hypocrisy, on the acceptance of oblivion, on the obliteration of humanity and culture was unlike any I had read - besides, possibly, Lord of the Flies or A Clockwork Orange, which I devoured soon afterward. This book dealt with drugs and sex and suicide, topics I had seldom encountered so bluntly as a preteen but I am glad I did, because it has shaped the way I see the world ever since. The first time I read Brave New World, I felt that I was far too young. bc im american and i googled everything.im gonna make it real sad so plz look out for yourselves.Save Your Strength and Run the Field You Play AloneĪwkwardCerberus Fandoms: Pacific Rim (Movies) Language: English Words: 51,738 Chapters: 18/?
